The Panathlon Challenge involves over 3,000 disabled young people from over 250 schools across 17 Counties with a range of abilities in structured competitions around the country in various sports.
Kingsley High Schools involvement with the Panathlon Challenge first began during the 2012-13 academic year, with students from Kingsley visiting a taster session organised by Whitmore, a neighbouring mainstream school. Previously the Harrow Panathlon team consisted of students from Whitmore (mainstream school) and Shaftesbury (SLD school). After the taster session students from Kingsley High were invited to join the Harrow team to partake in the Panathlon games/challenges. This was an exciting opportunity for the Kingsley students as the Harrow Panathlon team had never previously had a PMLD school involved in their challenges, let alone be a part of the Harrow team.
After the taster session and a few in-house sessions, the Kingsley Panathlon team was put together; the team four Kingsley High students, three from post 16 and one from Key Stage 4. The students compete in their own event, which is the ‘Precision Bean Bag’ and also in some of the Athletic events.
